Fashion Show Raises Hope and Funds for Breast Cancer Detection

In this Galesburg's Morning News interview, Dr. Sophia Omoro, ENT specialist and fashion designer, and American Idol alum Quentin Alexander, singer and creative director, discussed the Threads of Hope Fashion Show, set for Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, at the Galesburg Community Arts Center. This unique fundraiser, a partnership between the Graham Hospital Foundation and the Blooming Lily Foundation, blends style and purpose to support breast cancer detection and women’s empowerment. The event raises funds for an Automated Breast Ultrasound System (ABUS), a vital tool for early breast cancer detection in women with dense breast tissue, exclusive to Graham Hospital in the region. It also supports the Blooming Lily Foundation’s work empowering girls and women in Kenya and New Orleans by addressing barriers like lack of sanitary products and hosting youth retreats. Dr. Omoro’s runway designs, rooted in her Kenyan heritage, tell a three-act story of joy, struggle, and hope. Alexander, motivated by his grandmother’s battle with breast cancer, curates immersive music and storytelling to connect attendees emotionally. The evening includes a 5 p.m. mix-and-mingle with appetizers and a Kenyan “Dawa” drink, followed by a 6 p.m. program with performances, testimonials, a live auction, and the runway show.
