Orly KG, Bad Momz of Comedy founder — laughs coming to The Orpheum
Orly KG, founder of Bad Momz of Comedy, joined Galesburg's Morning News on Tuesday, July 7, ahead of Saturday's show at The Orpheum. Listen to the full interview above. Orly KG founded Bad Momz of Comedy in 2022 after a career as a TV news reporter and 15 years running her own public relations firm. What started as a search for something to do once her kids became teenagers has grown into a touring comedy brand with more than 80 female comics nationwide, featured on NBC's Kelly Clarkson Show. Saturday's Galesburg show features a four-comic lineup, including Orly KG, ahead of what she calls a "no drama allowed" green room culture built around supporting each other rather than competing. Seminary Street First Fridays returns July 3
Nikki Malley, owner of Malley Farms, joined Galesburg's Morning News on Tuesday, June 30, to preview Friday's First Fridays on Historic Seminary Street. First Fridays returns Friday, July 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Seminary Street in downtown Galesburg, giving the community a head start on the Fourth of July weekend. The headline act is the return of Frank F. Sydney's Western Bandit Volunteers, a beloved local bluegrass and folk group making their comeback after roughly two years away. "This is kind of their redebut for the Galesburg community," Malley said. The Galesburg Community Arts Center will handle hands-on children's activities for all ages. Restaurants along Seminary Street will offer sample-sized portions of their menu favorites, along with drink specials, while shops stay open until 8 p.m. for evening shopping. OSF St. Mary Medical Center is July's event sponsor, with Euclid Beverage providing beverage sponsorship. Malley also previewed the rest of the First Fridays season — Soul Situation, a Peoria-based soul, R&B, and funk band, on Aug. 7, and the return of the Pippi and Daniel Music and the Experience to close the season on Sept. 4. Mary Beth Shomos — known in Galesburg as Mary Beth Erffmeyer, GHS Class of 1979 — joined Jay Redfern on Galesburg's Morning News on Monday, June 15, 2026, to reflect on two major efforts she helped lead on behalf of GHS band alumni: the naming of the Sally Rynott Music Wing at Galesburg Junior/Senior High School, and the creation of the GHS Band Alumni Legacy Fund through the Galesburg Community Foundation. Juneteenth Soul Food Celebration this Saturday in Galesburg

The event is Saturday, June 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Allen Chapel, 153 E. Tompkins St. in Galesburg. Free-will donations are appreciated. All ages and all backgrounds are welcome. Hunigan talks about the history of Juneteenth, the campaign by Opal Lee that led to it becoming the 11th federal holiday in 2021, and what the holiday means to him personally. McCord shares the story of Susan Richardson — an escaped formerly enslaved woman who was instrumental in founding Allen Chapel in 1853, the oldest African American church in Knox County. Galesburg Police — Special Olympics Torch Run comes to Galesburg this week
Chief Kevin Legate, Officer Jake Taylor, and Officer Mike Ingles from the Galesburg Police Department joined Galesburg's Morning News on Monday, June 8, to preview a big week for Special Olympics in Galesburg. Wednesday, June 10 — McDonald's fundraiser on North Henderson Street, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. The Special Olympics torch arrives from the Quad Cities around noon at North Lake Storey Road and North Henderson Street, and officers will run it into McDonald's on North Henderson Street. The GHS Football team is volunteering at the fundraiser. All area law enforcement agencies are invited. Thursday, June 11 — The torch run begins at the Public Safety Building, 150 S. Broad St., at 7:30 a.m., with an 8 a.m. start. The route runs north on Cedar to Main Street, east on Main to Grand Avenue, and out to the Highway 97 and 150 intersection near Knoxville. Anyone is welcome to run along. The officers talk about what it was like to work the Galesburg High School Spring Games, the moment Officer Taylor told Chief Legate "we have to get this back," and what it means to watch Special Olympics athletes compete. This weekend, the organization hits the Orpheum Theatre stage for its 97th production — and one of its most meaningful shows yet. Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, Saturday May 9
The nation's largest single-day food drive is this Saturday — and Galesburg is aiming for 12,000 pounds. Sarah and Russell Oberhake from the Galesburg Post Office, Katherine Seguino, executive director of FISH of Galesburg, and Rachel Crouch of Hy-Vee joined Galesburg's Morning News on Wednesday, May 6, to preview the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Listen to the full interview above. How it works: Leave non-perishable food items by your mailbox Saturday morning. Letter carriers will collect them during their regular routes. Items can also be dropped off at the FISH Food Pantry or at the Hy-Vee van at the Henderson Street location. Hy-Vee grab bags — available now: $5 Dinner Bag — Hamburger Helper or Tuna Helper, tuna, mixed vegetables. $10 Lunch Bag — Peanut butter, jelly, fruit snacks or pudding cups, and a loaf of bread. $15 Breakfast Bag — Pancake mix, syrup, a dozen eggs, a gallon of milk, and cereal. What FISH needs most: Standard-sized items only — no family-sized or individual/tiny portions. Preferred items include peanut butter, jelly, cereal, breakfast foods, soups, and pop-top cans.
