Fatal Frame Maiden of Black Water (2014) Review & Discussion - Silent Evil Podcast 21

from Old Man Orange Podcast · host Spencer Scott Holmes and Ryan Dunigan.

Spencer and Cameron are talking all about Fatal Frame 5, Maiden of Black Water. Also known as Project Zero outside of the USA. The game that originally came out on the Nintendo WiiU in 2014 and by now, has been re-released on everything else. Yet sadly, something is lost by not having that WiiU gamepad with the double screen action. But no worries, the game is still an excellent thrill ride into ghost battling horror as we played through on the Switch 2 and PC versions.FF5 is all about 3 girls living in an antique store with a guy (sounds like the setup for a Tenchi Muyo spinoff) that all have this connection to the suicide mountain spot known as, Mt. Hikami in Japan. And of course they will all keep making the journey into the mountains, fighting ghosts, and searching for what each character has lost. It gets a bit complicated but always interesting. We break down our whole gameplay experience and not only go through the story and characters but the gameplay mechanics, world building, controls, variations, and overall experience from start to finish. Even that odd Dead or Alive Ayane DLC like missions. Discussing the whole adventure and how this game compares to other survival horror games. After Resident Evil and Silent Hill, Fatal Frame is really the next big series when I think of Survival Horror games. One that would fit on the Mount Rushmore of the genre. Making me wonder what that last, number four slot would go too. Probably Alone in the Dark realistically, but that spot is still up for debate.FF5 will be the perfect precursor to getting us pumped and ready for the Fatal Frame 2 Remake game this year. So, come join us for the run through retrospective discussion, as we deep dive into the lore, gameplay mechanics, and give a retro review on our modern experience. Let us know your thoughts on the game, survival horror titles, and what we should play next. The Silent Evil Podcast S.T.A.R.S.
