Felicia Pichette: “What do you call yourselves in your language?”

from Radio Aula Mundi · host Radio Aula Mundi

Felicia Pichette is an indigenous language student and teacher at the Spokane Language House in the state of Washington, in the United States. Its mission is to create a new generation of fluent speakers of Np’oq͗ ínišcn, the Spokane language, which is a dialect of Salish. In turn, the Salish language is highly endangered and at risk of disappearing. Only a few years ago, there were just two Elders alive who could speak Np’oq͗ ínišcn fluently. Spokane Language House started a radical method to address the issue of language loss in the context of a few fluent living Elders. The school’s goal is to create the space to immerse adult learners in the Np’oq͗ ínišcn language, and for these learners to become mentors who can transmit the language to younger generations. ••• https://www.culturalsurvival.org/publications/cultural-survival-quarterly/npoq-iniscn-language-warriors-carry-flame-new-generation https://m.facebook.com/p/Spokane-Language-House-100054480879291/?wtsid=rdr_0XZ6jGOEnY6wnuBtC••• Interview conducted by Marco Rixecker https://www.amazon.com/author/marcorixecker ••• Radio Aula Mundi, November 2025 https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0J-iNFOJ5e7pEH8ldsVqlM272Ly4wwBQ&si=Db9cnIDPtz9uNC8O ••• At the moment, Radio Aula Mundi is an evolving podcast station where no language and all languages are spoken… It’s a multilingual mix of music, poetry, lectures, languages, interviews, documentaries, recipes, and a lot more, co-produced with the students of the ‘Aula Mundi International Cultural Center’…••• Radio Aula MundiCentro Cultural & Turistico Aula MundiAula Mundi Cultural Travel Centerhttps://linktr.ee/radioaulamundi •••
