FIFA Fan Festival at Lemon Hill has fans excited, neighbors worried
from KYW Newsradio Audio On-Demand
For 39 days straight, Lemon Hill in Fairmount Park will be home to a FIFA Fan Festival for the World Cup. Neighbors are dreading the disruptions. There will be road closures from May 26th to July 19th. Ride hailing services will be prevented from entering the park. And there will be no parking in parts of the Fairmount and Brewerytown neighborhoods. Residents need a special parking permit. But, neighbors like Deandra are worried that's not going to be enough: "Do we think that the traffic and the parking is just gonna stop being a problem above Cecil B. Moore? Because it's already hard enough to park around here." SEPTA will add more trips to bus routes in the area. The city will also run a shuttle service from LOVE Park to Lemon Hill. The city is touting all of the fun things there will be to do at the festival. The festival's executive producer Michael DelBene says there's going to be a big area where fans can practice their soccer skills: "Where folks of all different abilities can come pass, shoot, do agility drills, and, and have a great soccer experience out there at Lemon Hill, which is really, really exciting as well." Restaurants will be serving food and drinks. And 60 DJs and musicians will take the stage. (Rendering courtesy of FIFA)
