Sincerity, Kṛṣṇa says in the Bhagavad-gītā, is the infallible way in which one can come to understand clearly who one is and who Kṛṣṇa is. He says it in the 10th Chapter of the Gītā: teṣāṁ satata-yuktānāṁ bhajatāṁ prīti-pūrvakam dadāmi buddhi-yogaṁ taṁ yena mām upayānti te He said, if you're sincere and you try to understand me even in the simplest way, even if you're not taking advantage, Prabhupāda writes in the purport of a religious practice, if you're just sincerely eager to know who God is, then Kṛṣṇa says, "I will give you the information from within your heart. I'll show you the way." So the way we can overcome those other distractions is by sincerely asking to know the truth. It's infallible, and it's worked since the time immemorial. Any living entity, anywhere in any era or culture who asks the abyss, "Please reveal Yourself to me. Show me who I am. Show me who you are. Please reveal," then Kṛṣṇa says to that person: "dadāmi buddhi-yogaṁ taṁ: I'll give intelligence."
