Flags of the future to watch In our most recent Topco Business Unusual Podcast guest Clem Sunter, Topco CEO Ralf Fletcher discusses: What the future might hold. Clem Sunter Joined Anglo America in 1966 in London, through its gold division, then moved to its Zambia division and later moved with them to South Africa in 1973. Later he was tasked with devising different scenarios for future proofing the organisation. The latest pandemic has made the world incredibly vulnerable, we all have to be like a fox, In order to survive we need to be agile, adaptive & ready for new situations and change. We need to watch 4 main flags 1. The real driver of global economy - China & America relationship over the next 2 years. 2. level of inequality. If only the poor are affected, and the rich is unaffected then this will drive further inequality in South Africa. This is why SME's and entrepreneurs are so important. 3. Climate Change and reduction of certain animal species. The world is very fragile at the moment and our carbon emissions are going to play a huge role in our recovery. 4. The chance of a war. this may be less likely. Further to this, if you are a Fox you need to keep diversified, in terms of assets and investments. We also have not seen any real data yet, so we need to be cautious.
