Flee From Idolatry: Stop Grumbling and Start Humbling

Greetings everyone, and may mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you. We will be in 1 Corinthians 10 today. Do you ever complain when you don’t get your way? I’m sure most of us have (I know I have). Maybe your paycheck wasn’t as big this week as you thought it would be, or maybe the coffee machine at the gas station was out. Or maybe half of your coworkers called out and you had to do extra work. Now these are valid modern problems, but our grumblings go back a long time, even to the Israelites. They complained about not having enough to eat, or limited choices, and as a result, a lot of them got sick and died. Our circumstances might not be as extreme, but if we’re relying on our own strength or modern comforts to get us through the day rather than rely on God, that’s idolatry. Life is gonna suck sometimes, and God knows that.
