Floodwaters Swallow Texas Homes As Rescuers Pull Residents To Safety

Uvalde County, Texas – Dramatic aerial footage shows residents being rescued from floodwaters surrounding homes as Texas Game Wardens and Texas Department of Public Safety personnel carry out helicopter operations. Murky brown water covers houses, vehicles, and yards under dark skies as a rescuer in a bright yellow-green high-visibility suit works among trees and debris. Inside the helicopter, crew members in tactical gear and life vests hoist people aboard using harnesses and help them into seats as the aircraft continues operations over the flooded landscape. The joint rescue crew included a Texas Game Warden helicopter, a pilot, a rescue swimmer, and a Texas Department of Public Safety hoist operator. Heavy rains caused the Leona River and local creeks in Uvalde County to overflow, isolating communities, submerging roads, and trapping residents in homes and vehicles. Texas Game Wardens have taken part in more than 40 rescues across the region, with the majority in Uvalde County, using boats and aircraft. Statewide emergency teams have saved well over 70 people. Officials continue urging residents to avoid flooded roads and follow evacuation guidance as more rain remains possible.
