Frances Valintine: Kiwi entrepreneur on her learning community designed for older Kiwis

from The Sunday Session with Francesca Rudkin · host Newstalk ZB

They say you're never too old to learn something new, and one Kiwi entrepreneur is using this as the basis for her new education initiative. Frances Valintine recently launched the Love Heart Social Learning programme, and it's designed to educate Kiwis over 60 and encourage connection. She says she's been working in education for years and seen Kiwis in their late 40s and beyond return for masters degrees and she felt inspired to use this for a social enterprise. "It's extraordinarily important, all the studies have come out around cognitive decline, Alzheimer's', dementia, etc - a lot of it comes through loneliness and lack of connection to people, but also the lack of keeping your mind busy. So people often take up reading or they go into book clubs, they might do other things that they haven't done before." LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
