Have you felt that twinge of resentment when someone who "doesn't deserve it" receives grace and mercy? In Luke 15:1-32, Jesus tells three powerful stories about things that were lost: a sheep, a coin, and most famously, a son. While we often focus on the wayward son's journey home, there's another character we need to watch out for in our own hearts - the older brother who couldn't celebrate his sibling's return.The prodigal son's story shows us the beautiful transformation that happens through humility. He began with "give me my inheritance" - demanding what he thought he deserved. But his journey back required a complete change of heart: "make me like one of your hired servants." Unlike the lamb and the coin, he had to choose to be found. Meanwhile, the older brother stood outside the celebration, unwilling to join in because he was trapped in comparison, entitlement, and judgment.
