From Empty to Full: The Providence of Ruth & Sight for the Blind (Day 136)

from The Bible in a Year Podcast with Scott Purcell

Where is God when life leaves you completely empty? Today we begin the book of Ruth, a beautiful story of loyalty and redemption set during the dark era of the Judges. We follow Naomi, a woman emptied by tragedy, and her daughter-in-law Ruth, whose radical faithfulness leads her into the fields of a righteous man named Boaz. In the Gospel of John, we encounter another story of unexpected grace. Jesus heals a man who has been blind from birth, transforming him from a helpless beggar into a bold witness who confounds the religious authorities with a simple truth: "One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see."Today’s Scripture:📖 Ruth 1–2 – Famine drives an Israelite family to Moab, where tragedy strikes, leaving Naomi a childless widow. Her daughter-in-law Ruth refuses to abandon her, uttering the famous vow: "Where you go I will go... your people shall be my people, and your God my God." Returning to Bethlehem, Ruth happens to glean in the field of Boaz, a wealthy relative who shows her extraordinary kindness and protection.📖 John 9:1–34 – Jesus rejects the idea that a man's blindness was caused by sin, declaring it an opportunity for the works of God to be displayed. He spits on the ground, makes mud, anoints the man's eyes, and tells him to wash in the Pool of Siloam. The miraculous healing sparks an intense interrogation by the Pharisees, who ultimately cast the healed man out for defending Jesus.📖 Proverbs 12:8–17 – Solomon contrasts the speech and habits of the wise and the foolish: "A man is commended according to his good sense... but the words of the wicked are a lying ambush." He reminds us that "prudence covers an insult."RESOURCES & READ-ALONG📺 Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYKi8-_5xHGL_nFAZOthHtZhcb4CqW4ZF📖 Follow the Text (LEB): https://biblia.com/books/leb/🗓️ Download the Full Plan: https://www.biblica.com/resources/reading-plans/CONNECT & SUPPORT📧 Questions?
