FYR037 Paul Belanger: A detailed Analysis of Gold's Importance in the Monetary System

from Fund Your Retirement Podcast

Paul Belanger shares detailed analysis of why Gold is still an important component of the Monetary system. Paul shows the amount of physical currency in circulation versus the amount of gold held by the Fed since the 1970s. Pauls shares in detail how you can assess golds true valuation against the amount of currency in circulation both for the Fed and the ECB. Paul also shares why he chooses value funds over individual stocks and finishes off with his thoughts on whether the central banks are now experimenting with modern monetary theory (MMT). Paul is a chemical engineer by profession, earning a Ph.D. in 1997, eventually becoming a Director of R&D. He recently retired at the age of 50, having achieved financial independence, through saving and investing, giving himself freedom of choice. During his career, he turned his skills and analysis techniques as a chemical engineer towards the financial system and portfolio allocation. After many years of study, Paul came to, what he believes is the optimum portfolio which is 65% stocks and 35% gold. This approach seems to give the best overall balance for good returns while minimizing risks. It's also important to periodically rebalance these portfolios to maintain that ratio.
