Praise the Lord, Ben Petreli here for GAC 238, a podcast ministry of the Greater Apostolic Church of Chatham, Louisiana.
I'm so glad you could join us today and thankful for all that the Lord is doing in the community and in the church. Before we get to what little I want to say today, we want to open up with a song that we recorded about 10 years ago, live at a church over in Franklin Parish, and it's a song called I've Been Changed. Enjoy. Man, that brings back a lot of memories, but I tell you what, there's one thing you can hear in that song, and it is the expectancy and the excitement that was in that church, that service for a move of the Holy Ghost.
And God surely did move that night, and what a wonderful time that was. But although that recording was made 10 years ago, God's not changed. He is still the same, and he is able to move today just as he has done in years past. So oftentimes we try to look back to points in our life and wish we could just get back to where we once were.
We look at where we are now, and I'll be honest, there's a lot of folks today that are unhappy in their current situation. They are unhappy with the way their life is gone. They are regretful of choices that they've made. They are frustrated with opportunities that have been missed or not appropriately used.
And you look back to simpler times and you think, man, I wish that things had been done differently. But a lot of times people are like men that refuse to ask for directions. You know how it is. You're a married couple and you're traveling somewhere, and hours can go by.
And after a while you look up and you realize you don't know where you're at. And you hear your spouse say, honey, let's ask for directions. Ask for directions. Why?
You're a man. You got lost all by yourself. You didn't need nobody's help. And so you can find your way out because it's an unknown fact to women, but men have in an eight-sense of navigation.
At least that's what we believe, right? So we don't need to ask for directions. And so your spouse says, well, why don't you go and stop at the gas station and ask them? Now think about this.
You've been married for five, ten, twenty years. And your wife just asked you to go trust a total stranger about directions. She'll trust a gas station attendant before she trusts you. Well, tell you what, we need to be careful sometimes to where we get help from.
Although there's times that we do need to stop and get directions. We do need direction from the right place. Jesus Christ said, I am the way, the truth and the life. And we need to understand that when we are lost in our life, when we are lost in the place that we are at currently.
And although we look back to a place where we knew where we were going, where we knew who God was, where we knew the direction our life was taking, yet somehow we refuse to go back to Jesus Christ and say, I've lost my way. Help me find direction. It's so crazy. People will ask for help from people that are not qualified to give help.
It's like going to a dentist when your car is broken and your dentist says, well, let's pull this out and we'll cap this and we'll put braces on that note. Or if you've got a medical situation and you go to Bob's small engine repair and say, you know what I've been hurting in my lower left back and he says, oh, what you need is a good oil change. And you don't get help from certain, if you are lost in life, you don't get direction from somebody else that is lost. If you are miserable, you don't go to somebody that's miserable to try to get encouraged.
If you want hope in your life, you need to find somebody that's filled with hope and joy. If you want peace in your life, you're not going to find someone that's in chaos and find peace. So, well, you may have friends and contacts that you fellowship with. Maybe you see them at the bar stool or you see them in the club.
They're not going to be the ones to tell you how to find peace in your life. If you want peace, you've got to go back to the place where you last had it. And if you can't find that way, you go back to the one that gave you that peace. And I'm telling you today, that is Jesus Christ.
And you know what I'm talking about, Chad. There are folks that you have been close to God and you're not close to God now. And it's not because God has left. God's right where you left Him.
Jesus said, I am the way. And He's standing there willing, wanting to give you direction to help you get your life and your spirit and your heart back on track. So do that today. Ask for directions.
