Galactic Government and Cooperation

EP. 219The topic of galactic government – centred on Coruscant, Chandrila or elsewhere – inherently includes questions about how all these planets and sectors and institutions cooperate with each other. Hint: sometimes they don't, which gives us the “Wars” in “Star Wars.” But when they do, it's found in the intersection between longstanding norms and institutional procedures that reinforce those norms. In the real world, that’s typically how we understand federalism, colonialism, confederalism and any other way to bring diverse interests and polities into one. Is Star Wars closer to the ideal of E Pluribus Unum of “We the People,” or the dryer but perhaps more realist attempt at “Peace, Order and Good Government” found in Canada’s Constitution? Or something else entirely?
