Garth Barfoot - The OLDEST Person to Run the 2024 New York Marathon

from The Dom Harvey Podcast

Garth Barfoot is 88 years old and, a few weeks ago, was the oldest finisher in the 2024 New York marathon. This is his second time on the podcast- last time he came on was in 2022 when he was just on his way to London for the marathon. What makes Garths story even more inspiring is he was a late bloomer- did not even start running until his early 50s.In this conversation with this truly great New Zealander we talk about his whole recent New York experience. We go back for a look at his childhood and what it was like being a kid in NZ during the second world war.We chat about his career in real estate at the firm his dad established- Barfoot and Thompson. He shares some valuable life lessons, including the importance of staying positive, adapting to modern technology and the keys to a fulfilling retirement and his aspirations he holds for the future, particularly in relation to his passion for marathons.Garth is the man. He inspires me and gives me a glimpse into just how awesome life can look in your 80s if you stay fit and healthy (and have a little bit if luck). Hope you guys like this one.   Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
