GE Vernova Stock: Orders Just Exploded +88% and It RAISED Guidance — So Why We Say HOLD
from Charged Alpha Stock Encyclopedia · host Colton Thomas
GE Vernova (GEV) Q2 2026 — GE Vernova (GEV), the power-and-grid company spun out of the old General Electric, reported a blockbuster Q2 2026: orders exploded +88% organically to $24.2B, revenue rose 22% to $11.1B (+12% organic), adjusted EBITDA jumped to $1.25B (an 11.3% margin, +340bps organic), and free cash flow hit $5.1B — more than all of 2025. Management RAISED full-year guidance, nearly DOUBLING the free-cash-flow outlook to $11.5–12.5B and lifting revenue to $45.5–46.5B, on a $176B backlog. GAAP EPS was $2.47 (+33% YoY), a touch light versus the Street's number. The stock (~$1,079, flat on the print) has roughly doubled off its $530 low and sits ~10% below its $1,196 high. The catch: at ~48x adjusted EBITDA, even our optimistic supercycle DCF lands fair value near $800 — below the price — because much of that free cash flow is customer advance payments that normalize. Our call: HOLD, 3/5. GE Vernova is the market's purest play on the electricity supercycle — the energy business carved out of the old General Electric in 2024, selling exactly what AI data centers, reshoring, and electrification suddenly can't get enough of: gas turbines and grid equipment. Q2 2026 was a blowout on the metrics that matter: orders exploded +88% organically to $24.2B, revenue rose 22% to $11.1B (+12% organic), adjusted EBITDA jumped to $1.25B (an 11.3% margin, up 340bps organically), and free cash flow surged to $5.1B — more than all of 2025. Power orders rose +134% (gas equipment under contract went from 100 to 116 GW, targeting 125+ by year-end); Electrification revenue grew +68% with a ~1.7 book-to-bill; only Wind lagged (revenue −10%, losses widening). Management RAISED guidance again — nearly DOUBLING the FCF outlook to $11.5–12.5B and lifting revenue to $45.5–46.5B — on a $176B backlog. GAAP EPS was $2.47 (+33% YoY), a touch light vs the Street. So the debate isn't quality — it's price. The stock has roughly doubled off its $530 low to ~$1,079, ~48x adjusted EBITDA. Here's the honest nuance: a big slice of that gorgeous free cash flow is customer down-payments on the booming gas backlog — advance payments that flatter cash today and normalize as turbines ship. Strip them out and anchor on normalized owner earnings (~$4.5B), and even our optimistic supercycle DCF lands fair value near $800 — below today's price; even the supercycle path at a 9% discount rate is only ~$1,025, still under the stock. A wonderful business with no margin of safety. Our call: HOLD, 3/5. We're not sellers of a compounder this good, but at these levels we wouldn't chase it — and we're more cautious than the Street's bullish ~$1,160 target (Buy, 21 of 28 analysts, 0 sells). Own it for the quality, add on real weakness toward $800, and watch margins and cash conversion. Not financial advice. THE CALL: HOLD (3/5, A SUPERCYCLE WINNER, PRICED BEYOND PERFECTION — A BEAT-AND-RAISE WITH NO MARGIN OF SAFETY) — base-case value ~$800 vs ~$1079 today. What to watch: durable margin expansion plus free cash flow that holds up as gas-turbine advance payments normalize — and Wind finally turning profitable — which would prove the cash generation is structural, not just working-capital timing, and justify the premium multiple, prompting an upgrade; the risk to respect is a stall in orders, a crack in the AI-data-center power narrative, or a margin disappointment, which at ~48x adjusted EBITDA could re-rate the stock hard Also on YouTube: @ChargedAlpha DISCLAIMER: For informational and educational purposes only.
