This is the Boys Gen V Podcast from TV Podcasts and we're talking about Gen V, Season 2, Episode 3. H is for human. Why do you cut yourself to gain access to your powers? It's just always how I've done it.
Self-harm. Distasteful disorder. It's very human. It's not self-harm.
It's just how I fight. Agree to disagree. Right now, you're Angelina Jolie in Girl Interrupted, and what I am hoping for is Angelina Jolie in Salt. You could be something magnificent if you just believed it up here.
Welcome back, boys and girls, to the Gen V Podcast on TV Podcast Industries. I am one of your hosts, Chris. I am your other host, Derek. Welcome back.
Yes, welcome back. You're just the two of us again. our lovable third host is back in his alma mater doing all of the Gen V debaucherous things that you can do in a college for all time soon. Yeah, hopefully he's not hanging out in some weird gladiator murder class.
Maybe. We don't know what they do over there. Maybe it is. But some might say that all of a university is a arena style murder class.
Maybe. Especially in Oxford. Yes, exactly. I wasn't going to dox where he was, but sure, that works too.
Yes, boys and girls, we are here to talk about Season 2, Episode 3, H is for Human of Gen V. It is a particularly interesting, a particularly poignant episode, especially as we start to learn a few things about Odessa, our central character, Maria. and her background. And yeah just the fun and games that is this universe Just continuing to do things where I like oh you went there oh my god you just showed that interesting cool yeah yeah and um i will steal something from derek uh because he said it last episode and now i'm even further in agreement which is Emma continues to be just the greatest thing about the show.
She's great, yes. Just the chase scene alone in the boys' locker room. Absolutely. Just her delivery, the actress's delivery of the lines, the looks, the raised eyebrows.
Absolutely. Just this whole scene, just that 30 seconds is just the episode. Absolutely. It's just so welcome.
Considering she's the shrinking character, one of the guys in the locker room goes, there's nothing shrinking around here. It's just great. It's a hilarious scene. Yes.

Yeah, do. It's a good discussion. Speaking of a good discussion, Derek, do you want to get into it with the what, where, when and how of the episode details? Absolutely yes The show is developed by Craig Rosenberg and Evan Goldberg with Eric Kripke This is based on the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Derek Robertson The executive producers of the show are Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg who won big at the Emmys in the last week didn they Yes, they did.
For the Apple TV show. Yeah, the studio. I swear, those gentlemen are... They are delivering on so many avenues.
They are like Brett Goldstein. where they're not just a threat on a comedic actor. They've got some kind of drama chops. They're writing some amazing shows.
And I did the usual thing when I saw that they'd won, that they were getting nominated for so many awards for the Ammys. I did the usual thing. I was like, oh, yeah, well, of course, it's a show about making TV shows and making movies. So, of course, this is going to win big.
And then I watched a couple of episodes of it and could not stop laughing. It is very, very funny, very well observed. So there's a couple of great moments. So go check out at least the first couple of episodes of the studio if you have access to Apple TV, which I did for one weekend.
So I was able to watch a couple of Apple TV shows, which generally is kind of my blind spot in TV. I never watch anything on Apple TV. It just goes in and out of one ear when somebody tells me that something's on Apple TV. So I have been able to see a couple of episodes of the studio.
Go check it out. Same. Everyone says also check out Invasion, which is the Sam Neill one as well, which supposedly is on its third season. and epic, epic.
Oh, very good, very good. But there you go. On this foundation as well. There's loads of great sci-fi shows, loads of money behind them as well.
So that seems to be the place for sci-fi if you're into that. Yes, we are not sponsored by Apple. Well, yeah, because we're basically saying we don't have access to Apple TVs. But if they want to, if they want to sponsor us, I'm happy to take that.
I'm down for some Apple money. Please, please. Absolutely. Mr.
Cook. And let's get back to the details for the episode. The episode was directed by Karen Gabbiola. this is the first Gen V episode that Karen's directed but she did direct two episodes of The Boys in season 4 as well so it basically came over from season 4 and went straight into Gen V which is kind of cool the writer on this episode is Cameron Squires we know Cameron Squires really well here for all the shows that he's done he was a writer on WandaVision on Agatha All Along and on Star Wars The Acolyde all of which we covered here on our main feed on TV Podcast Industries so kind of cool that we have a writer over there coming over and now in the boys universe yeah and all of those shows I liked so well done Cameron go you I going to give you credit for all of those shows Absolutely Yeah it was all you At least those episodes Chris, do you want to tell us what they gave us with the synopsis for it?
The Boys Gen V Season 2 Episode 3. H is for human. No. No, I don't.
But I will anyway. I'll do it. Hoping to learn more about Project Odessa and its connection to her, Marie Munro contracts her parents friend Pam discover more about herself. Pam informs Marie that she was conceived in a laboratory for Vaught as her mother could not become pregnant and the doctor involved was Cypher under the alias Dr.
Gold. To her dismay, Marie also discovers that Pam has raised her long lost sister Annabeth and stops Marie from contacting her for Annabeth's safety. Angry and frustrated, Marie lashes out, telling Pam she was just a scared kid. She loved her parents, but her powers were their fault, not hers.
Back at Godolkin University, a human barista called Tess is having a terrible day. Pro Starlighter publicity is appearing all around her coffee shop, and quicker than she can take it down, it's back up again. And Tess is getting the blame for that. Emma helps her out and learns the Starlighter Advocate is the mimic Harper, using her powers to evade detection.
Emma encourages Harper and her team to do more than just put up flyers. Elsewhere, Kate returns to Godew. She's effectively powerless after the attack that hospitalised her. Kate wants to inform Voth that Emma, Jordan and Marie were involved in her assault, but Dean Seyfried rejects this so she can maintain her reputation.
Sam, traumatised by his past action, asks Kate to make him apathetic again, but she cannot. He lashes out and begins destroying his dormitory. Jordan tries to stop him, manage him to calm down, and the two bond. Jordan is named the university's top-ranked student, thrusting him into the spotlight.
Before they can give a speech for Thomas Goodolk and Day, they profess their love to Marie. As Jordan takes the stage for their pre-written PR speech, they choose instead to reveal the death of Andre Anderson and that he would want everyone to know that it was his powers that killed him. They also reveal that Starlighters did not attack Kate. They were scapegoats blamed and murdered by Vaught.
Finally, with boos echoing from the assembled crowd of students, they reveal that they were the ones responsible for hospitalizing Kate. There you have it. The end of the trilogy of opening episodes for Gen V. Derek, it's definitely not a cliffhanger per se, but it's definitely a flag planting of how this...
I think they assume correctly that a lot of people will watch all three in these pretty quick succession. So definitely a way of just saying, OK, we're here. This is what the season's about. This is where we're going.
And this is why you're going to enjoy. Well, absolutely. And I also like, you know, that this final scene specifically with Jordan kind of rejecting the whole concept that that they're at the top of the ranks again. You know, the ranks were such an important thing in season one until they weren't.
And then the dean tries to bring them back. And Jordan's down in front of the crowd, not only rejecting the idea of being the most popular person in school going on to maybe being involved in the future. They're saying we're the ones responsible for hospitalizing Kate. It wasn't the humans.
You know, we saw how that all the reaction from the students at the end of the last episode when Firecracker revealed it on the TV that they'd found the starlighter responsible for what happened to Kate. But here we are setting effectively Jordan, Emma and Marie specifically against the rest of the student body right here. So they were supposed to be keeping a low profile. Not going to happen after the end of this episode.
So while it may not be a cliffhanger, I have no idea how that's going to play into the rest of the season. So I'm really looking forward to what does happen in episode four directly off that. No, definitely. Definitely.
I think it's going to be a lot to discuss. But with all that said and done, let's head off to our most interesting, our minor, major and medium moments for this episode. There we go. Derek, do you want to give me your refreshment moment, your minor for this episode?
Yeah, the minor moment is usually the thing that either wakes you up in the middle of the night after you've seen it or you just can't get it out of your head. um well i guess a guy literally inside another guy will be something that will never get out of my head um i guess he'd be a big hit down at the hero gasm um when he gets out of college um i was i was trying to work out is this the same guy that chugging the beer up his ass in the first episode Is it I am pretty sure it is Because someone mentions about someone with a black hole in their ass And I think that's him. So I'm assuming the guy chugging is essentially, because he's also a guy in the influencer class. Right, okay.
So I think it's the same kind of recurring character and his whole power is just to have a black hole in his rectum and that things go up there. In this case, the full body of another shoot? Yeah. Minus the head, yeah.
And he's in his dorm room when Sam knocks in the wall. Yeah. it's definitely it's a thing that will forever stay and you know you know there's going to be a porn parody of that maybe there wasn't the porn parody of uh of last season or of the boys uh when this happened something similar happened uh in that thankfully um but yeah pretty uh pretty shocking and i think it's just how unfazed the dude is when the wall breaks in um it's like oh someone's broken through your wall, you know, as if this kind of stuff happens every day, you know. So it's just how unfazed he is.
That's probably what's going to stay in my mind, I think. Chris, what about yourself? What's your freshman moment from the episode? Mine's just the douchey x-ray security guard on the human only.
You bring the fun, I bring the horrible. Because of course that is what a douche who is being a security guard with kind of just somewhat useless powers would do. He would be that pervy douche of a man who just takes two seconds to scan every man and then forever looking at a woman and then cocks his head and smiles. Just even letting out that groan as he's looking at her is just awful.
You can feel it in the character of Tess throughout the episode, really, And it starts right there, the way that she is stuck in this situation. She just can't get away from the situation where she is. She's a barista in this college. She's terrified going there.
She being objectified as she walks in the door And then from the first second she there before she even opened the till she being harassed by the Supes that are on campus It feels like a really dangerous place for her to be at all times. And it just starts in that moment at the beginning, doesn't it? Yeah. And it's just, it continues on and on.
But again, it's why I love the show. It is despicable and very close to real life. Yeah. Yeah.
So that's my minor moment for this. next episode. Let's bring back some of the fun. Let's move on to our media moments.
And I'm going to start off because I brought the whole podcast out. I'm going to bring it back up with Our Puppets Are Back. Yeah. I just this was some of my favorite moments in season one with Sam being as batshit crazy as hallucinating these kind of puppets and like pull the scene where he fighting all of the Vought security guards and is ripping the puppets apart and it's only we all think it's in his head until we see the real life kind of grotesque results of that but in his head they're all laughing and spewing confetti and it's just such a good thing and as he devolves back into the Sam we knew from season one like the sandwich starts talking to him again and it's just so good so good being like we saw the Vought TV version of Sesame Street which Jason Reddard was in Avenue V so again that was just in the it was we just got a scene where it's him and Jordan kind of talking about this and kind of watching this show.
So again, puppets being and acting so much in this. Just fantastic. Well, absolutely. You know, it's such a great touch that they bring to the show with this, especially because they do look like the Jim Henson puppets.
They've done such a great job. But, you know, I know Avenue Q is a Broadway show which has, or off-Broadway maybe, which has puppets that look very similar adult show that looks very similar to Sesame Street and to the Muppets. So there is precedence out there. There are people that are still making puppets like that even though the Muppets have been off here for a while But it kind of a cool idea to have this character looking at all the things around him you know having the rubbish bin or the garbage can as Americans would say turning into a puppet and giving out to him I also love the sun turning into a Muppet as well and spouting the most ridiculous stuff, you know, about vaccines not working and about the earth being flat and stuff.
you're going this is the sun why is it why is it telling all these uh these weird lies to to sam um but it's it's a great use of it yes as you say that the um the calming influence comes in um after a bit of fighting when he freaks out and and breaks into the uh the room next door uh jordan comes in calms him down and then they go back uh to smoke a bowl i guess and watch uh watch some of avenue v uh on tv so hey again it's college this is this is the exact kind of stuff that happens so um but it's nice to see that while sam is isn't been redeemed just yet i kind of like a moment like that where yeah jordan and self fight and then jordan says to him right you just need to stop stressing out about everything you know your brother died if your brother saw you like this he'd probably come back and kill you um you know he's he's talking about luke um his brother who uh who killed himself after everything he'd gone through and he was saying maybe he took the right way out jordan's saying to him no i think he would probably kill you if he thought you were even thinking doing the same thing um yeah and they calm each other down there's no superpower needed there um i really like that that's how this moment ends you know he's freaking out completely the puppets are back he thinks everything's going bad he wants kate to cure him Kate can't do anything right now and it's Jordan that does it. Yeah, your friendly neighbourhood weed dealer. And, yes, that too. That may have caused the schism in his personality in the first place, unfortunately.
But, yeah, I'd say the torture at the hands of Vought probably could have done that too. But, yeah, I do love a puppet moment in these episodes, definitely. And we're only going to get more. That's the thing.
They've started this so early. they're going to continue and it will devolve into something ludicrous and fantastic. Absolutely. What about yourself, Derek?
What was your medium, your software moment? I think it is the investigation into the Starlighter activism. Because the The show starts out with this character of Tess coming in and being persecuted as she goes in into the school. I just kind of wanted to kind of linger on that story a little bit.
It actually started in the last episode, in episode two. We saw Rufus was in the student union and he saw a poster up for the Starlighters. And he instantly went for Tess, who was behind the counter. We didn't really know her at the time.
Emma's the one that kind of calmed the situation down. Well, calmed the situation. she basically called rufus dickless and told him to get out of there but again here we have emma stepping in to help out tess um she is being persecuted by another soup because of what's happening she notices that every time she takes down uh the sign it goes back up uh over and over again um emma posits the theory that it's potentially a speedster so tries to find a speedster on campus um trying to track down who it could possibly be and it turns out we met the character before it was harper who was in season one um as another one of the uh the socialites um on campus uh who has a pretty useless tale we find out uh i love when emma finds out what her real power is that it's mimic she can um she can change her powers into anybody else's powers and uh emma just kind of goes i thought your power was tail yeah because she's a comedian a tail um I love that. A very, very funny moment.
But effectively, this is. There's another reason I wanted to pick this out. I'll talk to you about it in a second. But this is Emma doing the investigation.
Funny scenes. We talked about the scene when she goes into the shower room and sees all the guys out there. Just again, the reactions of Emma are hilarious. But she eventually tracks down this sect on campus who are people that support Starlight.
They're not Team Homelander, let's say. And all they're doing is putting pamphlets out there. It's the equivalent of, again, standing on the corner of a campus and, you know, spray painting the wall, saying your message out loud but not doing anything. And it's Emma that goes, look, this sucks.
This is useless. She's almost thrown out the room for it, but she basically is telling them to step up their game. They need to do something much bigger to support Starloud. to show your real support not just stick a pamphlet up and get the poor barista killed for supporting Starlighter which seems to be on the cards The reason I saying it is because of the Jordan scene at the end of the episode I didn't time it to see how long the scene is, but Jordan getting up on stage, using the powers to change from one version of themselves to the other version of themselves, and the other version of themselves basically revealing everything that's happened, throwing away the PR statement, revealing that they're the ones that attack Kate, that the Starlighters were persecuted by Vaught and murdered by them seems like a stepped-up version of the game of the Starlighters, doesn't it?
So is that on the back of what Emma has said to the mimic Harper and to her other compatriots? Is this Harper that has taken the powers of Jordan to be able to move back and forth between the two sides of themselves on stage? Have they replaced Jordan effectively? it's a good theory I do like that and then suddenly the start of the next episode will be she's on stage too long and it comes back out to be Harper and they run away you know something like that I like that I do like that the only piece I think that I want to say discredits but that goes against is the basically Jordan and Marie scene where Jordan professes their love and then goes on stage.
So that's the only best. I didn't time it. So I'm just wondering, possible? No, it's a good one.
I think there's something else. I think Emma is going to be one of the standouts. I think Emma will, between Emma and, I think it's going to be team Jordan and Marie and then Emma and Polarity. I think that's our kind of buddy cops for this season, with mingling in between, but I think Emma will be the she's not as directly tied, and she is a bit more vulnerable than Marie and Jordan, so I think they will be the more direct force, and I think Emma and Polarity will be this behind the scenes where I think Emma will use these starlighters, I was going to say lamp lighters, but starlighters, two very different characters as a distraction when they need to get something in the next episode of the reception Because she is right It is such a very student form of protest.
We're going to march around our campus and we're going to hand out leaflets and we'll change the hearts and minds. That doesn't work. Well, it's worse than that in this case because it's not even a leaflet. It's just the words written on it and they keep replacing it over and over and over again, which is actually quite irritating.
In a place which is causing trouble for a human. Like they're causing problems. They're not solving anything at all and they're not providing any information. There's no let's meet in a certain location and discuss plans to do anything.
And they're painting stuff on walls. None of these things will ever lead to any changing of minds or ideas. So that's why I was wondering, is there something behind what happens with Jordan? as Emma encouraged them to do something and they've gone way the other side and done something really, really bad here.
Probably not, but I just thought it might be interesting to think about. But yes, I think they may come back. I wonder if they will be part of the expanded group again. People that support Starlight all banding together on this campus could be a good connection at the end of the series when we see what happens with Starlight when it goes into the next season of The Boys, because she's all alone, remember?
Do you think we get a kind of like Avengers Captain America Civil War style scene where you have the Starlighters and the Homelanders of Godolken going and charging against towards each other. You could blow a bit of budget in that last scene and just have two groups running at each other and you get that very visual bang for your book. It would be really nice but that would take a lot between now and the end of the season to convince any of the other students to become Starlighters. It feels like Vault News has gotten their claws into every single student here, and Homelander's gotten his claws into almost every student here and turned them into people that believe that anything the humans say or Starlight says is absolute lies.
So it feels like it might take a while. It'd be lovely to have a real positive icon like that, but I think if it was Starlighters versus Homelander's right now, the Starlighters would get absolutely crushed, unfortunately. Yeah, no, that's fair. But it would be nice That I hope is where the whole universe is going at the end of the boys story is you know one side versus the other with everybody on one side destroying Homelander and his horrible horrible cast of people Hopefully.
That's it for my sophomore moment. Let's get on to our senior moment, Chris. What's your senior moment, the big moment for the episode? My major moment is Kate.
Kate being back. Kate fully missing a below the elbow and arm. and having a prosthetic, having her skull fractured, that we can see that it is stapled back together. And potentially the most interesting part is we knew from last episode her powers were fritzing, kind of, because she did end up unknowingly killing the nurse and another nurse.
Well, and more, even at the end of the episode. Dean walks in, doesn't he? And the whole room is just full of dead bodies, basically. So, yeah.
Yeah. But then we learn in this episode from Cypher and Kate talking that she is considered essentially useless because her powers are on the fritz. They're gone. She can't use them.
She can't push. And she can't hear the thoughts of anyone else right now. So, as Dean Cypher says, is like, you're only as good as your powers, and you're only as good as how powerful your powers are. And right now she's useless.
So he calls her bluff about going to Vod. Cases now I can see becoming, even for this, it can be the turning point, if you will. I think this is where she goes full evil. I think this is what fully causes her to become that Homelander kind of Vought puppet, if you will.
Because I think her whole thing was, oh, I got my friends out, so I want them to be safe. They were her friends. That's how she saw it. And she just sided with Vought because that's how her whole family issues and the tragic backstory that we learned about her in season one.
Yeah. And they've done bad things. Her and Sam have done bad things. But she, up until...
end of episode one of season two, she was under the delusion that they were doing the right thing. She was doing the right thing. She wanted her friend safe, and that's what she did. So, yeah, the actress, Maddie Phillips, is really delivering the evil, if you will.
She's bringing the body to this. If you think of Evelyn or Evil Lynn from He-Man, Master of the Universe, it's that kind of character. Interesting. That's the way I see it.
That's a callback, Chris. Yeah, I told you. I didn't think you were even born when He-Man was on. I know you were.
I know you were. I'm going to joke. The gray hair gives it away. And I just think this is the turning point for the character.
And how far and how deep they're willing to take this character is going to be the interesting thing. Yeah. And maybe I'm wrong. Maybe this is the point where she goes a bit further down and then they redeem her.
But I think redeeming her and redeeming Sam, I feel that's just almost too much redemption for the story. I feel, I think, no, I have always professed that the writers of these shows know so much more than I do because they zig when I would have zagged. Yeah. See, I brought it back.
It's been a while. It's been a while. and I think that's going to be they do it so much better and I think they'll know what to do with this character they've shown in the last season they knew the right things to do with these kind of Gen V characters who can kind of hold these dual identities but let's see, I think that's going to be the thing, what they do with the character It does feel like even by the end of the last season, you know despite how far it went afterwards when she was working with vaught in the boys season four it did feel like there were moments with kate where she was a victim she was yeah she was being used by everybody around her and again the start of the season was a real surprise to find her bringing the rest of the characters back to the campus of god you and saying i'm doing i did everything i did to try and keep us together and try and keep us safe that was her opinion and what she believed and now here she is um being told by the dean that effectively homelander will come here and kill you if he finds out that you can do what he needs you to do um you know so she being put on the back foot she being told that unless she gets her powers back she be useless to everybody else around her so maybe when she does get her powers back she will go a bit more evil yeah yeah interesting i think so i think that's where they'll take it what about yourself what's your major your senior moment i think we need to talk about pam um and the investigation that Marie goes on in the episode, because it's quite a massive moment. You know, the last episode ended with the reveal that Marie is Odessa, and you're kind of going, I kind of love about having three episodes, as the end of the last episode was kind of, okay, then I don't know what that means.
So we're still kind of in that situation. We still don't really know what Odessa is, but it's been confirmed that Marie is Odessa, and we have quite a big change to everything that she knows. um remember the the opening scene from the first season was marie getting her period and her effectively killing her parents um because she had no idea that she had had powers until that moment that came that came from her um she goes back to visit an old friend friend of the family person that she used to call auntie pam um who was there at her birth uh in photographs that she has and photographs that were in the file that Emma got from the stash of Thomas Godolkin and learns a bit more about her history. Learns that actually it turns out that she is effectively created by Vought in a test tube, similar to Homelander, as you had mentioned before, Chris, very similar to Homelander, that she was created in a lab and given to her parents, which is a bit different than she'd known.
Yeah, I suppose that the big revelation, well, one of the big revelations is that up to this point in this universe, we have always been led to believe that essentially the babies were given in utero compendry or some variation of that. But here we are, and it was always that the parents were given money to be kind of injected and have their children be kind of injected with compound B and see what happens. What we learn here is that actually Project Odessa or this variation of it was that the doctor was performing IVF virtual fertilization to help people who couldn have a kid have children It just so happened that was a VAUT project And one of the parts of that was that they had to have Compound V as part of the IVF. Yes.
So it's the IV project. Well, there you go. Compound V. IVVF, yes.
So that's an interesting, because that is a huge revelation. not just to us, there's also other ways of doing it, but it's also a revelation to herself because she has always believed that ever since it came out in the boys that people were given money to have their children injected with compound B the way that it is that's not the case for her, her parents just wanted a kid, so there's that really nice oh that's a that's a nice thing to have yeah and one of the other big reveals that's here is that um dean cipher uh previously known as doc gold um was at her birth was there it's it's in all the photographs that uh that uh pam has kept of her mom and dad uh from the day she was born so um that's another bit of a surprise that uh that the dean was there isn't it so good olgin gold yeah doctor like I'm more and more convinced there is a direct high and that it is a son or he is Godolken or like some variation of that maybe Godolken was just a bit too German and Jewish or something like that and they're just they're like much like when certain Germans and Jewish of jewish germans came over from germany yep they changed their name to a anglo-sized americanized variation we could hear dr godolkin was like i'm dr gold professor gold yeah or probably more likely since we saw the secret room of thomas godolkin um he may have been part of project paperclip coming over as a nazi from germany and hiding as an entity uh by renaming himself doc gold that might be it might be something to do with that maybe uh or maybe dean cipher is another uh member of that of that team that came over from uh from um from there or again son of as exactly as you said chris it could be the only reason i say son of is because of the age and that it a different actor uh playing the role of Thomas I think sorry it just funny because I was on the press site getting some photographs for uh for our podcast about it and it actually has um uh Thomas Godolkin's pass it has a photograph of the pass specifically which is something you just wouldn't have unless you want to really stress this is a different actor to Hamish Lake later he's very recognizable this guy isn't as recognizable so it could be they could be pulling the wool out of our eyes it could be an anagram of Hamish Linklater playing the role and he's just put on a mustache and I'm completely fooled by that uh because you know I've got face blindness too uh as as um coffee and vodka said last week I I do love the idea that we get another flashback in like a later episode and it's basically just Hamish Linklater kind of walking in backwards carrying coffee into the room going hey guys they're out of a thing but they had oat milk or whatever that is and then turns around and sees like everyone dead um yeah yeah just funny comedic moment it's not gonna happen no no but but speaking about that though i think we're i'm trying to build up the process of what happened you know in that first episode in that original flashback um we saw all of the scientists injecting themselves what looked like a version of compound v it wasn't the same color as we joked it could have been compound a leading to compound v but it seems like it's gotten to the point where they're testing the possibility of creating soups from birth by incorporating compound v in the ivf process as you said chris so um so this might be the reason why it didn't work back then was because full-grown adults taking compound v makes them explode because their bodies aren't born with it inside before the uh before the superpowers develop but that would stand against that theory that we had back in episode one that the reason why Marie has the powers that she has is because her body grew with this inside her blood and that's now her body has been built to be able to sustain that power. But let's see, it's going to be interesting and I think they're setting up it is that Marie will be the anti-butcher if you want to call it that. Well, yeah, yeah.
Like, she is going to be another weapon in the fight against. Well, yeah, don't they even say that the Project Odessa is called a weapon as well? So, yeah, it's interesting, isn't it? I'm...
thinking, you know, that the piece that we saw here with the gladiator murder class, you know, they're talking about training up heroes as soldiers or training up the students as soldiers here. An interesting line from especially given your comment earlier on about whether we'll see Homelanders versus Starlighters on the school campus. The comment from Cypher saying that last time saying that the student, they aren't students, they're soldiers. and this time saying that soups are outnumbered on this planet, but humans are so disorganized, that's the reason why they're winning.
But if the humans ever get organized, that will be the end of soups. So very interesting. So he's trying to get organized before humans get organized. Us versus them.
And that us versus them mentality and that hate and that fear runs over back into Marie's storyline, which is the bit that we find Annabeth had been living with Pam. Which is, because obviously that is why Marie didn't go back for the other characters. She basically, well, she wanted to find Annabeth. She wanted to make sure her sister was safe.
And we find that Pam has been essentially hiding Annabeth from Marie. and subsequently is also one of the reasons that Annabeth and Pam are fearful of the power and what Marie is. Do we think Annabeth has powers? I don't.
She says that she was the miracle, so she was conceived naturally, but do we believe that? Do we think that there might have been another Odessa baby that just didn't wouldn't wasn't told like is there like i just it's an interesting thing now that we're seeing that there was an ivf creation yeah it's an interesting one i don't know um i'm sure you've experienced something similar to this chris um we've had well we don't have kids and stuff and john don't have any kids you guys have kids but the amount of parents that i know that went through a process saying we can never have a child we have to go down the route of ivf and then conceived a child after having IVF now you know that it's just something that happens maybe it anecdotal but it definitely something I heard a lot of parents talk about the pressure you put on yourself to have a child sometimes can be the reason why you can have a child That sometimes happens Again not an expert on this but I think the story they telling here is that what happened. They were so desperate to have a child that except the intervention of Vought in their IVF process, paying for it and forcing them to use a completely experimental drug just for the possibility of having a child. And then they ended up having another child afterwards who's terrified by the creation, the older sister that she has because of what she saw and because effectively the parents both died at the hands of Marie um I love Marie's reaction to the idea that um that Pam is still telling her sister not to be in contact with her she's afraid of her when she's saying to her all I was was a young girl who had a period this is not my fault I love my parents but this is their fault this is the decision they made and shouldn't have any impact on me but I have to live with the consequences you know I'm the victim don't tell my sister that it's me that it's my fault tell her I'm here for her you know um so I love the I love that moment I love the drama in that storyline I think you know while there's infinite stories in this infinite world and the story of a sister being another superpower character that that's already been done in this show so I think they probably will will not do that hopefully we'll have some reuniting of Annabeth and uh Marie in future maybe Annabeth will take Comp Envy at some point because that's on the table for everybody but I think they probably will leave her as the human and Marie wanting to protect her in the future.
Yeah, especially in the soups versus humans. No, that's a good one. That makes sense. Well, I think.
I'm always known to be wrong. Many, many times and we have almost a thousand episodes to prove how wrong I can be. Not as much as me. I throw stuff at the wall and not much of it.
But it's good for the discussion, Chris. That's the point, right? Exactly. Should we just, any notes as we finish up our major moments?
Do you have any notes that you want to kind of highlight? Just a couple of little bits and pieces from the episode that we couldn't really fit within our structure or within points. In Jordan's speech, the line comes back and, you know, I kind of want to mention the character of Cheryl in almost every episode. the BPR lady she's got two lines in this episode one where she mentions that she the one that wrote the PR speech for Jordan and worked in the word trans in there Would they be happy enough to say that on stage And just after admonishing Jordan for not transforming when a fan asked them to Jordan, of course, says, yeah, but just the discomfort on their face when they're reading out.
We are all assigned awesome at birth. It's trans-tastic. It's just horrible. That's again one of the uncomfortable moments watching the boys hearing some of the things that some of these characters do.
The other one was when Cheryl is bringing Case back through the college, showing her that Tom's Godolkin Day is coming up and says, you know, it's a day for celebration for the school to get together. It's also the day for some people to get deflowered by the deep. in fact it happened over on that bench over there where she's saying effectively she got deflowered by the deep just a hilarious character who I really have loved in every episode I do have one more quick note just because Sam freaks out and throws everything around his dorm room and throws something through the wall and is able to go out through that wall and out through the front windows just calling back to a theory that we had back in season one when sam's breaking through all of the walls and uh he kicks he actually kicks something through the front door of his of his room kicks through a wall into the the neighboring guy's room and goes out through the the window next door in the fight with jordan and we had a theory back in season one that each of those dorm rooms the set direction for it was that they were cells and they looked like cells that they could be put into lockdown at any stage i guess that's not the case because they don't go into lockdown at any point when this soup is smashing through walls and doors yeah so i guess we were wrong with that uh that idea we were but i will note the door that gets smashed when he does that is like a super thick safe level door it is yep it is just it's like a fire door yeah massive fire yeah but he also goes through a wall and it just feels like we were expecting you know loads of things to come down on all sides and trap them in like homelander in his cell there there are cells built that contain soups and we thought that uh godalkin university every single dorm room was one of those cells in case something happened so uh but that not the case there you go there you go with all that being said and done shall we wrap up And I will ask you Derek did you enjoy this episode of Gen V Episode three H is for human I really enjoyed this arc all three episodes I think it's just great to have the character in this position I was surprised at the beginning of the first episode how they all got back to college by the second episode I was surprised that Marie was there with everybody forgetting what was happening this episode surprised again by the revelation that she is Project Odessa the weapon, don't know what that means we'll find out more later on in the season but surprised again that when everything seemed to almost be settling down and Jordan was going back into being Top Dog Jordan says absolutely not and tells everybody that they're the ones that went after Kate and that's our cliffhanger after this three episode arc. Nothing is as it seems, nothing is as expected and nothing is set in stone as to what's going to happen with these characters but it's really intriguing and I'm very happy with this opening arc of Gen V.
Looking forward to next week. Thanks, of course. Very much like it. Completely so happy back in this universe.
So happy with nothing is off the table. Like they are very much like the boys willing to take and push the limits of TV. But also keeping it very grounded in the storylines and being almost kind of prophetic in terms of some of the topics that are being brought up. And across the three episodes, when I was doing my rewatch the second time, I really just started to go, oh, I think I understand what they are doing with each of these characters.
And I think there are going to be standouts, I think, right now, much like season one, if actually ever so more, Emma is going to be that standout character. She brings the laughter of the human, but also brings that almost human soul of like that her whole power is also emotion is like when she has that. She's like just crippling anxiety and self-loathing makes her shrink and etc. When she's ecstatic, she gets big.
I think all that brings both the comedic elements, but is also very... She brings the heart. Heart. Perfect.
Perfect way of putting it. So, yeah, I absolutely think this was fantastic. I can't wait for episode four next week. Fantastic.
But do you know what it means? We're going to have to wait at least a week for this. So then we have to go to the pub or the Student Union bar. Yeah, let's head down to the Gen V Student Union for the pub quiz.
Welcome back, fellow boys and girls and fellow quizzers, to question three of the Gen V student bar quiz. The question three is, how long is Harper able to mimic another soup's powers for? See, I was joking earlier on. I did time it.
Yeah, of course you did. I didn't. I just read the dialogue. It was easy enough.
So that question one more time. How long is Harper able to mimic another soup's powers for? unfortunately it does put paid to my theory uh on whether they were playing jordan or not um but yes uh but there you go um that is the third question all questions available over on tv podcast industries.com collect all your answers together and at the end of the season email us to feedback at tv podcast industry.com and you could be in the chance of getting your hands on some gen v goodies yes yes yes uh big thank you to matthew over on patreon because this episode of TV Podcast Industry is brought to you by our supporters on Patreon including the one and only Matthew So thank you Matthew Absolutely Thank you Matthew And if you want to be cool like Matthew one of those kids, the hip kid, you can support us monthly for any amount over on patreon.com slash tvpodcastindustries or if you'd like to support us with a one-off donation, you can pop on over to buymeacoffee.com slash tvpi and buy us a coffee. We do have a little bit of feedback in for this episode I got an email in from Coffee and Vodka with his thoughts on the third episode of Gen V season 2. He says greetings fellow burger busing defenders from nothing to Gen V overload but three episodes or eight trying not to binge them. Another great one but more of a plot builder than eventful outside of that ending. Sam's regression back into puppet coping mechanism was hell for him, but awesome for us.
It was good however to see him work through his issues rather than get another emotion wipe Kate powers rather than gone I think have changed She seems to have traded in her reading and influencing to outright possession Jordan, in the meantime, while bequeathing their love and taking the high road to honour Andre's memory, may have gone a bit too far. With Emma joining the resistance and Marie making inroads and finally contacting her sister, this was a full one, but again a builder. though it did lend intrigue as to what marie's final pokemon form is to take 4.5 bong rip solutions rye tuna sandwiches and awkward and confrontations out of five peace and take care coffee and vodka it is it is a building episode as you say but it's actually a good it needed again it's a three episode arc if you will um i like the idea that kate's powers have just evolved as well. Like, they've changed rather than being gone.
She just needs to relearn it. In terms of Marie's final Pokemon form, there is no final Pokemon form now. There's Mega Evolutions, Aloha Evolutions. It just continues and continues.
Absolutely. So, who knows? Who knows? But a great catch there that I might be completely wrong on Harper being Control of Jordan, but maybe that is what Kate did at the end of the episode.
Maybe. Kate did Control of Jordan, and revealed what they'd done. Yeah, time will tell. I love when you catch the stuff that we don catch Thanks so much for your thoughts Coffee and Vodka And if you want to send in your feedback to us get it into us to feedback at tvpodcastindustries or pop on over to our Facebook group at facebook slash group slash tvpodcastindustries That's it for the three episode arc that came out this week.
Oh, just down to one next week, Chris. But we also have Alien Earth, which is on its final episode next week. And we also have Marvel Zombies, the four episode arc coming out at the end of this month. now we may not be able to cover it immediately as it comes out because it's all being released in one day and we've got quite a bit of other stuff going on but as it is the marvel halloween show i guarantee we will have it done as soon as we possibly can yes of course and definitely in time for halloween oh without it so there you have it boys and girls we are done for this episode but We will be back same V time, same V channel next week for episode four.
Until that, stay safe. Keep watching, keep listening, and keep fighting that good fight. Bye. Bye.
Thank you.
