“Generational Trauma”

from Living Your Truth w/Tavares · host Living Your Truth w/ Tavares

Generational trauma is a term used to describe a “passing down” of traumatic impact and emotional fallout. What are examples of Intergenerational Trauma? Domestic violence, Alcohol and drug addiction, Child abuse and neglect, Absent Parent Syndrome, Survivors of domestic violence related trauma. Trauma can leave a chemical mark on a person's genes, which can then be passed down to future generations. This mark doesn't cause a genetic mutation, but it does alter the mechanism by which the gene is expressed. This alteration is not genetic, but epigenetic. Evidence has been shown that trauma can be passed between generations epigenetically, which means that trauma experienced by an ancestor might affect the way your genes are expressed. Trust I had no idea how deep the rabbit hole really went. It’s very important that we know where we came from so that we can mitigate this epidemic. There is so much to learn about myself and I will continue to show up for myself so that I do not pass on any trauma to the next generation in my family. You can do the same by living your truth. Thank you so much for joining me. I know you have many choices in the podcast world, so we thank you for your time and your energy.
