Gilbert House Fellowship #182: Jer 38-40; Psalms 74, 79; 2 Kings 24-25
from Gilbert House Fellowship · host Derek & Sharon Gilbert
THE LAST king of Judah, Zedekiah, was obviously more afraid of his countrymen than he was of Nebuchadnezzar -- or God, for that matter. This week's study covers the last couple years of the kingdom of Judah before Nebuchadnezzar lost patience and destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple altogether. Zedekiah appears to have been sympathetic to Jeremiah, but he was intimidated by nationalist Judeans into continuing their rebellion against Babylon against the warnings of God through His prophet, Jeremiah. For reference, here is the timeline of the events we've been discussing in our last few studies:609 B.C. - Josiah, king of Judah, dies in battle with Pharaoh Necho II of Egypt609 B.C. - Jehoiakim, son of Josiah, made king of Judah by Necho597 B.C. - Jehoiachin, son of Jehoiakim, reigns three months, then carried into captivity in Babylon.597 B.C. - Nebuchadnezzar makes Zedekiah, son of Josiah, king of Judah.589 B.C. - Egypt leads rebellion against Babylon, which includes Ammon and Judah.586 B.C. - Babylon takes Jerusalem, breaks down its walls, and captures Zedekiah with his men as he flees.----------Book Three of Sharon's series of supernatural thrillers The Redwing Saga, The Blood is the Life, is available now at Amazon!
