Picture this: you're at a restaurant on a Saturday night. It's busy...there's a band and every table is full. You put in your food order and the food just doesn't come. However, your waiter addresses the issue head-on and provides an explanation, an apology, and a coupon for your next visit. He didn't skirt the issue, avoid you, and allow you to become progressively more frustrated. A negative situation became a positive one because of how that waiter handled it. His professionalism was memorable. The way you communicate matters. Every word matters and how you tackle situations. You can't be afraid to pick up the phone and make that call. The saying goes "Go the extra mile," but sometimes what you need to do to stand out, have a huge impact, or save a client relationship, isn't that much more. Just go the extra hundred yards. Be honest and upfront, and tackle things head-on.
