God Almighty--El Shaddai

from Restoration: Where New Life Begins · host John Baldwin

God Almighty“I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty...”EXODUS 6:3I am reminded today that we love and serve an almighty and all pow- erful God. Trust Him today!I am truly proud of you! Each day you are choosing to embrace the un- known and step into a challenge to draw closer to Him. Each day there is a new possibility! Each day there is a new experience! And each day you choose to seek Him. I am truly proud of you!I really enjoy looking at the names of God. A lot of God’s names are a combination of the word El (a generic term for God) and another word that goes into a deeper and more specific facet of who He is. That’s what we have here as the Lord tells Moses that He appeared to Abra- ham, Isaac, and Jacob as God Almighty, or literally, El-Shaddai.The word El speaks for itself. We know that it’s a general name identi- fying God. It was actually used in the Bible over 7000 times, to define not only God, but judges, leaders, etc. The word EL is not the most im- portant part of the name. It signifies importance, but what follows EL gives us the depth and understanding of God. Now let’s take a closer look at its companion word, Shaddai. What does it mean, exactly? Two schools of thought emerge when it comes to the origin of this word. The first thought is that it comes from a combination of the Hebrew word that means “who,” and another Hebrew word that means “enough.” Put the two together and you get “she-day” (or Shaddai), which communicates the idea of “one who is enough” or “He who is all sufficient.”The second school of thought says Shaddai comes from the word sadu, which literally means “mountain.” This is an interesting theory because in ancient times mountains were often used as the ultimate ex- ample of something that was powerful and permanent. Think about it: There was nothing in their physical world greater than the mountains, and so we can see the connection between their greatness and God’s greatness.Either way, the name El-Shaddai represents God’s all-powerfulness. He is the God who is always enough for every occasion. He is the God whose might is reflected by the mountains. He is the God who is above all and who outlasts all. He is God Almighty, El-Shaddai. And those who are His—no matter how weak or small they may be—can take refuge and comfort in His almighty arms.Today, we lose sight of that fact. We are so busy that we don’t embrace the PAUSE in each day. We don’t allow ourselves the opportunity to see the strength and power of God, because we are so busy with our schedules and all that we think we need to get done. We are tired, worn, hurting, and yet we continue to move on each day, trying to finish the schedule that we create for ourselves. So, just stop and PAUSE. Take a break and reflect on who God is. Let your mind rest. Let your body rest. Let your emotions rest. God is El-Shaddai—the Almighty God—He can handle whatever you are going through.1 Peter 5:7 says, “cast all your anxiety on Him for He cares for you.” You are loved my friend! God has a plan for you and will make sure itis worked out! Trust Him!Support the show
