In Genesis 12, God told Abrahm to leave his country, his people and his father's household and go to the land that He would show him.  God promised him that he was going to make him into a great nation and all the peoples of the earth would be blessed through him.  At the time of the prophecy, Abraham and Sarah could not have children.
