Good Grief

Preaching on Genesis 23, Ps John Wong taught “good grief.” Abraham mourns Sarah (v.2) yet honors her, his Hittite neighbors, and God: as a sojourner he negotiates publicly at the city gate and lawfully purchases the cave of Machpelah from Ephron for 400 shekels of silver (vv.3–20), refusing shortcuts to keep a clean testimony. Christians likewise grieve honestly—never bypassing lament—as Jesus wept (John 11:35), yet we grieve with hope of resurrection and reunion (1 Thess 4:13–18), choosing integrity amid sorrow.
