Sin doesn’t make you bad – it makes you dead. Sin destroys you because as Paul argues, it enslaves you. We all are in danger of being enslaved by sin. It may be life destroying habits that we often think of, but may also be the small, justifiable things that take hold of our heart over the long time - like gossip or envy, pride, or laziness. It is for all of these enslaving sins that Christ came to die for in order that we may be set free. Both here and now, and for eternity. There are echoes of the Exodus here for Paul as he writes to the church. The people of Israel were enslaved under the reign of Pharoah, with no hope or future.
