Government Increases Investment in Health Care

The Government of Saint Lucia is increasing financial support for the Millennium Heights Medical Complex as it works to improve patient care and ease pressure on the Owen King EU Hospital. Health Minister Hon. Moses Jean-Baptiste says the annual government subvention has risen from approximately $31.8 million in 2020/2021 to about $77 million in the latest budget. Government has also taken steps to address outstanding debt, improve pharmaceutical procurement and recruit additional health-care professionals. Strengthening primary and community health services, including the reconstruction of urgent care facilities at the Betty Wells Urban Polyclinic, is also expected to help reduce congestion at the hospital.
