The Government of Saint Lucia is taking another significant step in its digital transformation journey with plans to establish a cross-sector regulatory sandbox for Digital Identity and Financial Technology, or FinTech. The Central Statistical Office is moving forward with plans to modernize the way official statistics are collected, analyzed and shared in Saint Lucia. Health officials are emphasizing the importance of screening and early detection, noting that prostate cancer may not always produce noticeable symptoms, particularly in its early stages.

The Government of Saint Lucia is reporting a $26 million revenue shortfall between April and September, attributed mainly to the reduction in excise tax on fuel amid rising international oil prices. Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Hon. Philip J. Pierre says the impact is being felt despite fuel prices at the pump remaining unchanged, with August alone recording a $15 million shortfall.

Saint Lucia has launched its first Coroner’s Court, marking a significant development in the country’s judicial system. A new partnership aimed at positioning young people as leaders of positive change is being considered as the Department of Equity, Social Justice, Gender and Older Persons engages the Ubuntu Movement on opportunities to strengthen youth leadership, volunteerism and peacebuilding across Saint Lucia. The discussions focused on the Movement’s Ambassadors of Justice and Peace Programme, which equips young people with training, mentorship and structured opportunities to lead volunteer projects and become positive agents of change within their communities. Guided by the principle “I am because we are,” the Ubuntu Movement promotes collective responsibility and community well-being by empowering individuals to contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.

The Ministry of Persons with Disabilities has launched the “See Ability, Not Disability” sensitization campaign to promote greater awareness, inclusion, equity and acceptance of persons living with disabilities. Suicide is an issue that can affect anyone despite of their status. In observance of World Suicide Prevention Day, the Ministry of Health recognised the need to bring greater awareness to prevent suicide and to promote mental well-being of individuals

The Bordelais Correctional Facility is expanding opportunities for rehabilitation, technical training and skills development among inmates. Between 40 and 50 inmates are currently enrolled in an auto mechanic program, while others are receiving electrical training. The programs are designed to provide inmates with practical skills, work experience and greater opportunities for employment following their release, helping to support successful reintegration and reduce the likelihood of reoffending.

Early childhood institutions across Saint Lucia are set to receive additional financial assistance as part of government’s efforts to ease the cost of education for families. Each eligible institution will receive $3,000 in support, while an additional $100 will be provided towards tuition for every child at the centre. The initiative forms part of a wider package of measures for the new school year aimed at strengthening early childhood education and reducing financial pressures on families.

The Government of Saint Lucia is expanding psychosocial support for students with the addition of eight new counsellors and two social workers during the new school year.
