Great Moments in British Political Theatre
from Blain's Morning Porridge · host Bill Blain
Blain’s Morning Porridge 16th January 2026: Great Moments in British Political Theatre “I love Europe! France is wonderful. It should be. We’ve subsidised it for 40 years.”Catharsis is a marvellous thing. Reform and the Tories will duke it out for the British right, leaving Labour to get on with ever-so-slowly trying to fix Broken Britain – which could be evident by 2029. A great political battle is in prospect. Bring it on!Well, at least we now know something about the hidden truths of UK politics this morning… The dirty linen of the last 15 years was washed in public. It’s cathartic and no bad thing for the UK. Any nation that can maintain a stable currency, a sustainable bond market, and demonstrate honest political competency meets the Virtuous Sovereign Trinity test and should do … OK. (Which for the UK would be a more than acceptable outcome!)My hopes for the UK are higher this morning than they’ve been for a while. We are all painfully aware politics in the UK is not what it once was – but it still throws up moments of magnificent comic splendour and import. Like yesterday. You can read the Morning Porridge by subscribing on www.morningporridge.com, and have it delivered fresh to your inbox every morning!
