After a successful 4-year collegiate playing career assisting the Slippery Rock Golf Team to a second-place finish in the NCAA Golf Championship in 1979 he turned professional and successfully competed on various golf tours during the 1980's. A near-miss (one-shot) to qualify for the 1988 US Open sent him in the direction of teaching and coaching. In 1990 he became the Director of Golf Instruction at world-renown Woodlands Golf Academy at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort where his research into biomechanics and proprioception established himself as one of the top innovative golf instructional schools at that time.
