Hamlet & Ophelia (2018)

In this episode, briefly revisit William Shakespeare's Hamlet before listening to Stephanie discuss the 2018 film Ophelia (starring Daisy Ridley, Naomi Watts, Clive Owen, and George Mackay). Ophelia is a re-imagining of Hamlet through Ophelia's perspective. The film starts with Ophelia (Daisy Ridley) coming to Elsinore Castle as a child with her father and brother. She becomes one of Queen Gertrude's ladies in waiting, and audiences get to watch Ophelia's romance with Hamlet bloom. This film takes a much more feminist lens and re-invents many crucial scenes from the original play (including the ending...). If you are a fan of romance and strong female characters, but are intimidated by Shakespeare, you should still give this film a chance.
