Hanger Spacing for Steel and CPVC

Steel pipe hanger spacing is dependent on pipe size and type. For branch lines, a single section of steel pipe may not require a hanger, as long as the cumulative distance between hangers doesn't exceed the maximum spacing requirement. When calculating cumulative distance, changes in horizontal direction are included. Table 9.2.2.1(a) provides maximum distance requirements between hangers in feet and inches, while Table 9.2.2.1(b) uses metric measurements. The distance between a hanger and the centerline of an upright sprinkler must be no less than 3 inches. CPVC pipe hanger spacing is addressed in Table 9.3.6.4(b), which provides the maximum spacing of restraints for CPVC, based on pipe size (inches and millimeters) and seismic coefficient (Cp).
