One person alone would lose a fight against a chimpanzee. But a hundred humans will almost always beat a hundred chimpanzees. The difference is not strength and it is not intelligence. It comes from something called the cognitive revolution, a shift that happened around seventy thousand years ago. It gave humans an ability no other animal has, the ability to believe together in things that do not physically exist. Money, nations, religions, corporations, and human rights are all stories that became real because enough people agreed to believe in them. That same power built the pyramids, and that same power built concentration camps. One ability, capable of civilization's greatest achievements and its darkest atrocities. In this episode I share what I genuinely agree with in this book, and I also share where I push back against Harari's argument. At the end I leave you with one question.
