34-year-old James Matthew Barnes is charged with aggravated assault and shooting into a motor vehicle after telling police he was the one who pulled the trigger in a shooting along Hardy Street. Mississippi State University is permanently honoring its first Black student with an on-campus monument. University officials held a ceremonial ribbon cutting last week to unveil the special landmark enshrining Dr. Richard Holmes’s name on the school’s grounds.
