Hayom Yom 16 Elul - The soul's state from the primordial till eternity

רַבֵּנוּ הַזָּקֵן פִּרֵשׁOn this teaching, the Alter Rebbe offered the following interpretation:מַאֲמָר כָּל הַמְקַיֵּם נֶפֶשׁ אַחַת מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל כְּאִלּוּ קִיֵּם עוֹלָם מָלֵאThe Sages teach: “Whoever sustains one Jewish soul is considered as if he had sustained an entire world.” אוֹיף אַ אִידעֶן דאַרף מעֶן קוּקעֶןWhen we see a fellow Jew, וִוי עֶר שְׁטֵייט אִין מַחֲשָׁבָה הַקְּדוּמָה דְּאָדָם קַדְמוֹןwe should behold him in the [pristine spiritual] state in which he is conceived in the Primeval Thought of Adam Kadmon. אוּן דאָרטעֶן שְׁטֵייט יעֶדעֶר נְשָׁמָהOn that level, the soul exists מִיט אַלעֶ דּוֹרוֹת וואָס קוּמעֶן אַרוֹיס פוּן אִיהרtogether with all the generations that will emerge from it בִּיז בִּיאַת הַמָּשִׁיחַ גּוֹאֵל צֶדֶקuntil the coming of Mashiach, our righteous redeemer. אוּן אַז מעֶן טוּט אַ אִידעֶן אַ טוֹבָהThus, when we do a Jew a favor, טוּט מעֶן אַ טוֹבָה, אָט דִי אַלעֶ נְשָׁמוֹת עַד סוֹף כָּל הַדּוֹרוֹתwe do a favor for all those souls until the end of all the generations.Text and Translation courtesy of Sichos in EnglishFor questions and follow-up: [email protected]
