Hayom Yom 24 Cheshvan - In material matters look lower, in spiritual matters look higher

בָּעִנְיָנִים הַגַּשְׁמִיִּיםIn material matters, צָרִיךְ לְהִסְתַּכֵּל בְּמִי שֶׁהוּא לְמַטָּה מִמֶּנּוּa person should look at someone lower [i.e., less fortunate] than himself, וּלְהוֹדוֹת לְה' יִתְבָּרֵךְ כִּי טוֹב עַל חַסְדוֹ אִתּוֹ עִמּוֹand thank G‑d, Who is gracious, for His kindness to him.בָּעִנְיָנִים הָרוּחָנִיִּיםIn spiritual matters, צָרִיךְ לְהִסְתַּכֵּל בְּמִי שֶׁהוּא לְמַעְלָה מִמֶּנּוּa person should look at someone who is on a higher level than himself, וּלְהִתְחַנֵן לְהand petition G‑d שֶׁיִתֵּן לוֹ דֵעָה טוֹבָה לְהִתְלַמֵּד מִמֶּנּוּto grant him the proper understanding to learn from that person, וְכֹחַ וְעוֹז שֶׁיוּכַל לַעֲלוֹת בְּעִלּוּיand the strength and fortitude to elevate himself, level after level.Text and Translation courtesy of Sichos in EnglishFor questions and follow-up: [email protected]
