Hayom Yom 26 Elul - Soaking salting and rinsing in our Divine service

סֵדֶר הֶכְשֵׁר בָּשָׂר לַאֲכִילָהTo make meat fit for consumption, לְהוֹצִיא מִמֶּנּוּ דַּם הָאָסוּר הוּאthe forbidden blood must be removed by the following procedure: שְׁרִיָּה, מְלִיחָה, הֲדָחָה[First the meat is] soaked, then salted, and then rinsed. עִנְיָנָם בָּעֲבוֹדָהThe parallels in our Divine service are: שְׁרִיָּה — וֵוייקעֶן זִיךְ אִין דִּבְרֵי הָרַבSoaking — which means immersing oneself in the words of one’s Rebbe; מְלִיחָה — יְחִידוּתsalting — which means [meeting him at] yechidus; הֲדָחָה — נִגּוּןrinsing — which means [singing a] niggun.Text and Translation courtesy of Sichos in EnglishFor questions and follow-up: [email protected]
