Hayom Yom 27 Shvat - Chassidim refrained from desires and cravings

אַאַמוּ"ר כּוֹתֵב בְּאֶחָד מִמַּאֲמָרָיוMy revered father, the Rebbe [Rashab], writes in one of his maamarim:חֲסִידִים הַקּוֹדְמִים עָשׂוּ הֶסְכֵּם בְּנַפְשָׁם“The chassidim of earlier generations made a firm resolve in their soulsשֶׁכָּל דָּבָר הַמּוּתָּרthat whenever they encountered something that was halachically permittedאַךְ שֶׁיֵּשׁ לוֹ אֵיזֶה רָצוֹן וְחֶמְדַת הַלֵּב לָזֶהbut they desired and craved for it,לֹא יַעֲשֶׂנּוּthey would refrain.וְעַל יְדֵי זֶה נַעֲשֶׂה שְׁבִירַת הַתַּאֲוָהSuch a habit breaks physical desires.”Text and Translation courtesy of Sichos in English
