רֵאשִׁית הַהֲכָנָה לְהִתְעַסְּקוּת בִּשִׂכְלִים עִיּוּנִיםThe first step in preparing for disciplined meditation, וּבְשֵׂכֶל אֱלֹקִי בִּפְרָטespecially on G‑dly concepts, הוּאrequires: א) יְגִיעַת בָּשָׂר לְהָסִיר הַטּוּב טַעַם מֵעִנְיָנֵי עוֹלָם(a) toiling with the flesh to remove one’s pleasurable taste for worldly matters; ב) יְגִיעַת נֶפֶשׁ לְעוֹרֵר הַטּוּב טַעַם בְּמוּשְׂכָּלוֹת בִּכְלָל(b) toiling with the soul to arouse a pleasurable taste for the contemplation of concepts in general, וּבְעִנְיָנֵי אֱלֹקוּת בִּפְרָטand of G‑dly concepts in particular.Text and Translation courtesy of Sichos in English
