Hayom Yom 8 Elul - The Tzemach Tzedek toiled 32000 hours on the Alter Rebbe's Maamarim

הַצֶּמַח צֶדֶק מָנָה שְׁלֹשָׁה דְּבָרִיםThe Tzemach Tzedek enumerated three factors שֶׁבִּזְכוּתָם הִצְלִיחַ בִּשְׁנַת תר"ג בְּפֶטֶרְבּוּרְג בַּאֲסִיפַת הָרַבָּנִיםin whose merit he was successful at the Rabbinical Conference in Petersburg in 5603 (1843). וְאֶחָד מֵהֶם הוּא זְכוּת שְׁלֹשִׁים וּשְׁתַּיִם אֶלֶף הַשָּׁעוֹתOne of them was the 32,000 hours אֲשֶׁר טָרַח וְיָגַע בִּדְרוּשֵׁי רַבֵּנוּ הַזָּקֵןthat he toiled in [studying] the discourses of the Alter Rebbe בְּמֶשֶׁךְ שְׁלֹשִׁים הַשָּׁנִים תקס"ד-תקצ"דover a period of thirty years, from 5564 to 5594 (1804-1834).בִּשְׁנַת תקס"ד קָבַע לוֹ שִׁעוּר מְיוּחָד לִלְמוֹד דְּרוּשֵׁי רַבֵּנוּ הַזָּקֵןIn 5564 (1804) he established a fixed session for the study of those maamarim, בִּשְׁנַת תקצ"ד הִתְחִילוּ לְהִתְעַסֵּק בְּהַדְפָּסָתָםand in 5594 (1834), work began on their publication.Text and Translation courtesy of Sichos in EnglishFor questions and follow-up: [email protected]
