HBO's Last of Us with Alex Squiers - Episode 11

In this episode we talk with another long time friend of mine, Alex Squiers. You've definitely heard me talk about him on this podcast before. He did the special effects for my film, Girl in the Basement, as well as a lot of the stuff on Jared Skolnick's early work in MA. He also co-hosted another LONG running (over ten years) podcast called Opinions May Vary. Since it's May, we're having him and then the other cohost of the show, Jayare, on this month for what I'm calling Opinions MAY Vary May. There has been an exceptionally long standing beef among our friend ground revolving around Alex's experience playing the **video game** Last of Us. He has such a uniquely negative experience - unlike the rest of us who adored it - that he simply couldn't contain his hatred, and it became a hilarious running joke. He loved to whip people up by reminding us of it as much as we loved to "poke the bear" back, so to say. When HBO came out with the show based on the game, we all loved it and wanted to shared this with Alex, but he was having NONE of that. So when it became known that I was doing a show that asked people to watch a MOVIE that they may have judged without watching, several people immediately asked if I would consider a television show episode with Alex and the HBO show. Knowing that it wouldn't be really a fair ask to having Alex watch the entire 9 + hours of the show, I thought, "Oh wait! There's that fantastic bottle episode where Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett play opposite." It's not heavily based on the events of the game, so it might just be a wonderful way to have Alex see the amazing storytelling and writing that the show has to offer. Despite being a bit wary to ask, as this was a big as in my opinion, Alex was very affable and eager to help be a guest on this show since I'd been on OMV several times in the past. Listen in as things in my life come full circle, and see if we were able to perhaps change Alex's mind on a long hated subject!
