Hedonic Tolerance

from PRA Podcast · host Sam IV

If we did not have imperfection in the world than the perfect world would collapse within itself… Think of the Hedonic treadmill and the tolerance threshold we continue to surpass over and over again.we have a baseline level of happiness. When we experience good stuff, our level of happiness gets raised and when bad stuff happens our level of happiness also goes down. If you notice however, this continues to go back and forth. Much as a heart beat. This is natural and we all go through this. Now the reason happiness is temporary is because as you can see there is nothing to strengthen set level and as we all know everything needs a foundation. When we shade in fulfillment at the bottom half of this picture what we will find is that in the bad moments it can allow for more courage as opposed to, This is when You get used to something so much that you go passed a certain limit just far enough to feel induced to proceed and go further. If we don’t become grateful for what is then we don’t present any sacrifice to go along with it. We need to reduce consumption to remain in a state of healthy resistance enough to always be consistently growing. With perfection. There is no growth. Everything is easy, which in turn becomes hell. Why? Because you know the outcome. There are no surprises and more importantly there is no choice. Why would you choose otherwise if perfection is already afoot and underway? You wouldn't have free will to choose because everything would be set.
