Brecht van Hulten spreekt met Annemieke Houben, gastcurator van de tentoonstelling 'Christa Ehrlich - Pionier in design' in de Lakenhal in Leiden. De van oorsprong Weense ontwerper Christa Ehrlich (1903-1995) maakte op jonge leeftijd naam in Wenen. Op haar 24e had ze al veel ervaring, kennis van trends en een internationaal netwerk, en maakte ze de overstap naar de Zilverfabriek Voorschoten (Van Kempen, Begeer & Vos). Hier experimenteerde zij met de mogelijkheden van zilver, een materiaal waar ze nog niet eerder mee had gewerkt. Ze creëerde minimalistische ontwerpen in de functionele vormentaal van de machine. Deze vormen een spannend contrast met het klassieke zilver dat in die tijd werd gemaakt, versierd met bijvoorbeeld putti of parelranden. Annemieke Houben vond onlangs haar privé-archief terug en dit vormt de directe aanleiding tot deze tentoonstelling.
