Brecht van Hulten in gesprek met Annette Portegies. Deze maand verscheen het FIEP, een schitterend overzicht van het leven en werk van een van Nederlands bekendste kunstenaars namelijk Fiep Westendorp door Annette Portegies en Gioia Smid. Fiep Westendorp werd beroemd als de vrouw die Jip en Janneke hun uiterlijk gaf. Ze tekende ook Pluk van de Petteflet, Otje, Floddertje, Pim en Pom en tal van andere onsterfelijke kinderhelden. Generatie na generatie groeide op met haar werk, maar zelf bleef ze graag op de achtergrond. Daardoor is het minder bekend dat ze ook muurschilderingen, tijdschriftillustraties en boekomslagen voor volwassenen maakte, en dat ze reclamecampagnes ontwierp voor diverse bedrijven. Aan de hand van haar omvangrijke oeuvre schetsen Annette Portegies en Gioia Smid in FIEP de wereld van Fiep Westendorp, waarin ze haar talent ontdekte, de kunstacademie volgde, geïnspireerd raakte en met vallen en opstaan haar ambitie najoeg. Annette Portegies studeerde Nederlandse taal- en letterkunde en is uitgever. In 2019 verscheen haar biografie Weerspiegeld in een waterglas: Maurice Gilliams 1900-1982.
