Annemieke Bosman praat met Barbara Bos, hoofd tentoonstelling bij Museum Voorlinden, over het werk van de Duitse kunstenaar Anselm Kiefer. In Voorlinden is nu zijn solotentoonstelling Bilderstreit te zien, daarnaast draait sinds deze week een film over Kiefer in de bioscoop; Anselm van regisseur Wim Wenders. Dankzij zijn eigenzinnige beeldtaal, vol verwijzingen naar geschiedenis, mythologie en literatuur, groeide Anselm Kiefer (1945) uit tot een van de grootste kunstenaars van onze tijd. Zijn werk is een lust voor het oog en prikkelt het brein. Hij denkt groots, werkt op monumentale schaal met ongebruikelijke materialen en deinst er niet voor terug om de ongemakkelijke vragen van het leven te stellen. Tijdens zijn solotentoonstelling Bilderstreit bij Voorlinden zijn intrigerende schilderijen, sculpturen, kunstenaarsboeken en installaties te zien. Een groot aantal daarvan is nooit eerder vertoond. Anselm Kiefer is een onvermoeibare alleseter met oneindig veel interesses. De kunstenaar is altijd op zoek naar nieuwe inzichten en betekenissen. En dat zie je duidelijk terug in zijn gelaagde werk. Daarin verweeft hij Germaanse mythologie, geschiedenis, poëzie, literatuur en filosofie. Hij gebruikt daarbij traditionele en onconventionele materialen, zoals goud, olieverf, stro en lood. Kiefer stelt zijn werken bloot aan de elementen, steekt ze in brand, voegt levensgrote objecten toe of beitelt eerder aangebrachte lagen weg. Zo creëert hij ware symfonieën vol textuur en betekenis, waaraan hij liefst blijft doorwerken. Want een kunstwerk is voor hem eigenlijk nooit klaar. In de documentaire Anselm schetst Wim Wenders een portret van kunstenaar Anselm Kiefer. De film is opgenomen in 3D en 6K-resolutie waardoor het publiek volledig ondergedompeld wordt in de buitengewone wereld en het werk van een van de meest vooraanstaande moderne kunstenaars. Anselm had zijn wereldpremière tijdens het filmfestival van Cannes en is vanaf 18 oktober te zien in bioscopen in België en vanaf 26 oktober in de Nederlandse bioscopen.
