Brecht van Hulten praat met regisseur Ben Sombogaart over zijn nieuwste film Tegendraads, die vanaf deze week in de bioscoop te zien is. Het slaperige Oldenzaal van 1961 wordt opgeschud door de komst van een grote groep Italiaanse werknemers die zijn opgeroepen om de snel groeiende textielindustrie van extra handen te voorzien. De Italianen werken hard, klagen niet en stelen de harten van de Twentse meisjes. Ondertussen is de jonge arbeidster Johanna op zoek naar vrijheid en probeert ze tegen de maatschappelijke verhoudingen in hogerop te komen. De groeiende spanningen tussen de Twentenaren en de nieuwkomers leiden uiteindelijk tot de historische ‘Spaghettirellen’. Samen met haar nieuwe geliefde Francesco bevindt Johanna zich in het oog van de storm.
