Wat hebben geplette luizen met de kleur rood te maken en hoe veranderde blauw van de minst geliefde in de meest geliefde kleur? Charlotte Caspers maakt in De kleuren van Caspers een reis door de vele facetten van de kleuren rood, blauw, zwart, geel, wit en goud. Een blauwe lucht, een rode tomaat, een gele zonnebloem; de wereld om ons heen is vol kleur. Zelf voegen we ook graag kleur toe, maar waar komen onze kleuren eigenlijk vandaan? Kunstenaar en kunsthistoricus Charlotte Caspers is gefascineerd door kleuren; de verhalen erachter en de grondstoffen. De vroegste mens maakte tekeningen met zwart koolstof en in de ruimtevaart wordt nog steeds koolstofzwart gebruikt: Vantablack. Het zijn dezelfde atomen, maar anders geordend. Letterlijk een verschil van hemel en aarde. En waarom is zwart de kleur van de metal-muziek, associëren we rood met socialisme en was geel vroeger de kleur van prostituees? Politiek, handel, religies, kunst en samenlevingen gaven en geven allemaal betekenis aan kleur. Charlotte Caspers observeert en vertelt, droomt en mijmert over de symboliek en de emoties, die bij verschillende kleuren horen.
