Annemieke Bosman in gesprek met Charlotte Vermeulen, emeritus ARTIS-bioloog. Charlotte Vermeulen werkte meer dan 30 jaar als huisbioloog voor ARTIS en deed onderzoek naar seksueel divers gedrag in de natuur. In ARTIS gaf ze hier eerder met succes lezingen, trainingen en rondleidingen over aan publiek. Nu maakt ze voor het eerst de stap naar het theater, in een tournee door heel Nederland. In het theatercollege Seksuele diversiteit in het dierenrijk laat Vermeulen – gewapend met een schat aan kennis – zien hoe wij ons als mensen kunnen laten inspireren door de natuur. In het dierenrijk komen verschillende seksuele voorkeuren voor, geslachtsveranderingen en het juist niet hebben van seks. Zo is homoseksueel gedrag al onder 1.500 soorten vogels en zoogdieren waargenomen en kunnen sommige vissen van man, vrouw worden en weer terug. De natuur is queer! Hebben we daar bij dieren altijd bewust of onbewust overheen gekeken?
