Annemieke Bosman in gesprek met filmmaker Claire Pijman. In haar nieuwe documentaire Batik, Beats & Bumbu volgt regisseur Claire Pijman, zelf met Indonesische roots, een nieuwe generatie Indische Nederlanders die hun erfgoed opnieuw verkent. Waar eerdere generaties hun cultuur vaak naar de achtergrond schoven om een nieuw bestaan op te bouwen, gaat deze generatie juist actief op zoek naar hun achtergrond. Pijman reist in deze film met vier kunstenaars en een band af naar Indonesië, waar zij vorm geven aan hun dubbele culturele identiteit door samen te werken met Indonesische makers. Met onder andere de band Nusantara Beat laat de film zien hoe uit deze kruisbestuiving nieuwe culturele bewegingen ontstaan. Claire Pijman maakte vorig jaar de documentaire Een vrouw als Monique met Monique van de Ven en Joes Brauers. De film werd bekroond met een Kristallen Film Award voor 10.000 bezoekers. In 2019 won Claire Pijman een Gouden Kalf voor Robby Müller: Living the Light.
