Brecht van Hulten in gesprek met schrijver David Meijer over zijn boek 'Zusters van Tarakan'. Een jonge vrouw belandt aan de frontlinie tijdens de Japanse invasie van Tarakan, een klein olie-eiland voor de kust van Borneo. Een adembenemend boek over een onderbelicht deel van onze geschiedenis. ‘Zusters van Tarakan’ van David Meijer is het waargebeurde verhaal van Mila Herman, die tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog vermist raakte en doodverklaard werd. 75 jaar later reconstrueert haar kleinzoon David haar verhaal, zich baserend op jarenlang onderzoek. David Meijer (1983) groeide op in Frankrijk, Singapore en Den Haag. Hij studeerde geschiedenis, werkte voor kunstgaleries en in de zorg, reisde de wereld rond, werd vader en trouwde. Oog voor de toekomst bracht een nieuwe carrière in de bouw; fascinatie voor het verleden bracht een vergeten verhaal. 'Zusters van Tarakan' is zijn debuut.
