Annemieke Bosman in gesprek met schrijfster en critica Dominique van Varsseveld. Het werk van de Surinaamse schrijfster Bea Vianen werd vorig jaar herontdekt dankzij de succesvolle heruitgave van haar roman. “Sarnami, hai”, vertaald als “Suriname, ik ben”. Vianen werd veel gelezen in de jaren zestig en zeventig. Ze schreef over de schoonheid en de beklemming van Suriname, en over de gevolgen van het kolonialisme aldaar. Waar "Suriname, ik ben", vertelt over hoe het is om als vrouw op te groeien in een seksistische maatschappij, richt Vianen zich in 'Strafhok' op de etnische, culturele en religieuze verdeeldheid in haar land. Schrijfster en critica Dominique van Varsseveld schreef het nawoord in de nieuwe heruitgave van 'Strafhok'.
